    Default Favorite Milsurps

What are some of your military surplus rifles? Can you find them locally or do you have to order them?

Great Falls has a horrible selection of milsurps. Usually very few even at the gun shows.

My favorites are the M1 Garand, 1903 Springfield, Swedish Mauser and the Swiss K-31.

The 1903 and the K-31 shoot the best although the Swedish mauser would problaby out shoot both of them if it had better sights. Of course for the most fun of all is the Garand. 8 rounds of .30-06 and a ping, it just doesn't get any better than that. :P

    Whats your favorite?

M1 Carbine would be nice. I wish I would have bought a crate of them when they were going for $135 in the early 90s.

    Default Milsurps!

Love 'em all. Like Chaffee2, I wish I would have been able to buy some M1 carbines when they were affordable. I have a K1911 and K31 that I really like. Love the M1891 sniper and Enfield No4 Mk1Ts. Enfields in general are sweet. Garands, 1903s...ooh baby! And K98s! I'm one of those who don't really care for 'minty' or 'matching' as long as it has an actual history and is usable. Russian capture K98s tell their own story of hardship, and Garands and 1903s show their grace. 1891s scream of struggle and fortitude, and Enfields display a majesty all their own. The Swiss K's exhibit a lost craftsmanship. And I'll even say I love the French! Give me a Mas 49/56 any day; the balance, the feel, the recoil..it's like a Frog M-14/M1-A. And I like the Mas 36 for its utilitarian looks and accuracy.

The current favorite is my International Harvester M1 Garand (my first) that I bought last month.

I've got a couple Mosin-Nagants, an Ishapore Enfield, and a Russian SKS that I really enjoy but I can't put the Garand down. What a piece of work this rifle is!

Its a very nice specimen...probably would be a CMP Service Grade and has a new barrel & excellent bore, to boot.

Since the CMP is sold out of everything but the Greek rackers at this point, all Garands are very likely to take a jump in value very soon, so I don't believe I got 'hurt' on this one, even considering I did pay 'gunshow price' for it.

The fact that IHC's production numbers were relatively low will help this one to increase its value, too, of course.

Its a toss between the Garand, mausers and PSL for me.

    But nothing....NOTHING.....beats a MG42!
