    Default Left Handed M&P 15-22

Finally got a M&P15-22 and I love it. I searched for the Magpul edition but it was nowhere to be found, so i settled. I had a aimpoint waiting for a AR so it landed on this. Shoots flawless after 1000+ rounds. What a great gun.

One thing I was looking to change was the safety lever to the right side because I am a lefty. I was looking to do it myself, so if anyone has any tips let me know.

Take it down to Bowers-he has the switch for about $30 and Robb will probably do it for you.

I know the 22 versions are different in some ways but I'm not sure how so I'll walk you through how to do it on a normal AR. First you remove the grip. It holds in a spring and a detent that hold the safety selector in the reciever. Be careful not to lose those. You may have to remove some of the trigger to slide it out but I'm not sure since I'm not in the mood to take mine apart. I don't think you do. Make sure to do a good function check when you're done.

As for brands you can get a JP that is awesome but pricey or Stag which is iffy. I have one that is tight and smooth but my other one is wobbly and not so great. They were reasonably priced and do their job, though.

As for other stuff, you can get ambi mag release AND a charging handle to lefty it up more. I have a Norgon ambi catch for my mag release and the handle is by Armadynamics. They run about $90 a piece so I'm not sure if you want to spend that on a .22 but they are both quality parts. For a lefty who really runs their rifle they're must-haves along with a safety selector.

Correct on spring and detent. Cock hammer and slide out and replace with ambi (put a drop of blue loctite on screw threads) No need to to remove anything else. I just did one last week on an AR-not sure if the M&P 22 is the same procedure.

Both Fromk and StagLefty thanks for instruction. I finally had the time to tinker and i was able to use the same safety selector but moved to the right side.? Seems to function well, although i have not fired it yet... Fromk thanks for the heads up on the spring because that sucker would have gotten lost if i was not looking for it. I am interested in getting the lefty mag release. Thanks both again for the help.

Whoa there! This might be a case of that gun having different parts but that shouldn't work. There's a channel on the right side that the detent fits in to. It serves to stop the safety from turning too far and from sliding out the side. You should give that a really good check.

Glad to hear you're working it out, though.

Wow that worries me...I have shot it sense I made the change and it worked flawless. I am sitting here with it in front of me and the safety seems to not turn to far or slide out.
As far as the "channel for the detent"? I am going to take it back apart and look at it again. I am pretty new to anything but pulling the trigger so i am going to try to figure out what that even means...
