    Default Ethical Hunting

I got my goat but....something that really pisses me off about hunters. WTF is wrong with people who think they can make an accurate shot at 600-1000 yrds standing up off hand? [angry]

I had many shots but nothing I felt confident I could make so I didn’t shoot I waited for that prime shot. Mean while I see jerk offs taking nothing more than pot shots.

The doe I got had a bullet that passed through her lower left jaw and exited high on the right side. She was standing there with nothing but tongue showing and her lower jaw looked like a beard hanging down. Her upper pallet was busted about in the middle. She was on property next to the place I had permission but I was so pissed when I seen her through the spotting scope I didn't give a $hit about trespassing. I had to put her out of her misery.

My Antelope hunt turned into a mercy killing because some jack off thinks he can hit a pie plate at 1000 yrds with his 30-06 off hand standing up. This kind of crap is what gives anti-hunting groups more ammo.

WTF happened to ethical hunting and common sense? Sorry guys I just had to vent those of you that love hunting as much as I do PLEASE use common sense so things like that don't happen. No creature on earth deserves to suffer a horrible death like that which is what would have happened had I not seen her and put her out of her misery.

    [angry] [angry] [angry] [diss]

This may get me in trouble with some of you, but I feel the same way about handgun hunters and some bowhunters. Yeah, you can take game that way, but most people shouldn't. The trick isn't trying to kill an animal in the most challenging way. Use the best tool for the job and make the kill as humanely as possible. The trick should be in getting the animal to drop in a heap and not being a blood trail where the animal isn't found and left to die a slow death.

To quote Dirty Harry, "A man's got to know his limitations." If you aren't 100% sure of the shot, pass on it and wait for a better opportunity.

It was fortunate for that doe that HunterCO was in the right place at the right time. HunterCO, will you catch any grief for the mercy killing?

Just got home...this is the 1st time hunting far eastern Colorado for antelope instead of El Paso county.

I couldn't believe how skittish they were and at what distances.

They were running at distances starting at 1/2 mile. I usually only shoot at distances up to 200 yards.

They have definately been shot at.

I couldn't take any shots today because of this strange phenomenon.
Next year I will be hunting my old haunt where I am the only hunter on 20k acres.

If you see someone taking these long distance pot shots standing off-hand call the DOW, they would love to give some trouble out.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

"Heck Bubba, your good out to 600 yards with that group!" (With a 100 yard group the size of a pie plate)

I Know what you mean, having witnessed multiple yahoo's like the above think they are Audie Murphy. The state should have a "markmenship" test before it hands out that license. I feel sad for half the game out there.......

I have seen more than my share of these idiots. I have personally seen a guy put 3 rounds in about a 6" group at 100 yards and call it good. And this was with probably a 2-3k dollar rifle. I never understood these people

Advertising! Almost all the gun rags and ads talk about the long shot. I find it amazing people buy all the latest magnums but can't even hit the 30" 300yrd gong out at the range. But almost always start talking about shooting antelope at 600 plus yards.

For a lot of guys hunting is just an excuse to get out of the house and drink beer.

A friend of mine baits these guys at out at the range into telling him how great a shot they are and how wonderful their $1k or more rifle is. After they puff themselves up he will go back to his bench and start ringing the gong with a open sighted rifle of some sort usually a 30-30 since most people know what it is. He is a competitive Hi-Power rifle shooter and has won his share of matches.

The looks on their faces is priceless.

I'll just stay with my underpowered .50 cal muzzle loader and obsolete 30-06.
The longest shot I've ever taken is maybe 150 yards.
