    I remember learning how to make a solar still in Boy Sprouts back in the late 70s...same tech, but not as fancy.

    One problem I see is you set your "clean" portion of the device into "dirty" water. There is chance for cross contamination.

    Yup, and a hole in the dirt. put pieces of cactus and stuff under the plastic to increase the yield
