Mag restriction, block stuffed in to limit ok?

I think to be in the clear with the game warden you'd need to permanently affix the block of wood to the magazine follower so that it couldn't be readily converted back into a 20 round magazine (thus ruining the mag ... or at least the follower).

Even if you did that, you can expect to be constantly hassled by game wardens and you'll likely lose a day of hunting clearing it up (or worse the warden will think you're some sort of wiseguy and pull your license). Game wardens aren't known for their generosity, leniency or sense of humor.

Just buy a 5 round mag and be done with it, less headaches in the long run.

What kind of rifle you got? You might be able to find someone who could loan you a mag.

I (and many others) hunt with a 2 round limiter in my shotgun, and its not permanently affixed. I've never had any sort of hassle from game wardens over that. The rules may be different on the rifle side of things, but I doubt it.

If semi-automatic it can hold a maximum of 6 rounds in chamber and magazine combined. Nothing says a thing about what the original magazine could hold. all that needs to happen is the end result. so as long as it limits it out to 5 rounds in your magazine you are good to go.


just look at shotguns. you can either put a stick in it, or buy a plastic plug. the end result needs to be that it only holds 2 rounds in the tube and 1 in the chamber.

-FAL, so yes can do one round, and simply not take a mag, hadnt even thought of that.

Figured assembly would be follower, spring, block, base plate. No destruction, of any parts.

This is simply a question to stay on the right side of the law. Id rather spend the 30 something on the fuel to get there, the ammo, etc, than on a mag I dont really need. If I really need it, then so be it. Maybe Ill put a call into the DOW, and see what they say. If the reaction/answer is anything but "oh yeah that's fine" then go for the mag.

If you can take a stick and use it to limit the shells in a shotgun, a block of wood is more than enough...as long as it does the job.

besides, do you expect a game warden to know which mag is factory 5 round and which one has been set up by you to only accept 5 rounds?

there are plenty of mags out there, take the M1A 5 round mag but it is in a 10 rd body.

just do it yourself and don't worry about it. every game warden I have run into will only check operation and will load the mag, as long as it doesn't take any more than 5, you are GTG.

I have no experience with the CO wardens but this was exactly how the wardens in AZ do it. Step 1: Check the ammo to see if it's legal. Step 2: Watch you load it and try to stuff the last round in. If it goes, you're screwed. If it doesn't, "have a great day Sir and be safe."

Depending on if your rifle has a mag safety and how the action is situated, you could just hand feed it. If you're doing it right you only need one round anyway...
