Gotta love those certs though. Kinda funny how employers haven't figured out that there are very few that are worth the paper and ink, much less the salary increases so many of those certified professionals demand. I can't talk too much smack considering the alphabet soup I can add to a signature line, but hey, I've got the decade plus worth of experience to back up the pretty little letters.

Dude, hope you get the gig, get in there and show them that the CCNA isn't the end all be all!

That would be me. I have the paper, but no experience and I gave up trying to find a job in the field a long time ago.

All I have is experience. I never have time to take the tests that have questions with answers that defy real world experience. I have talked to folks with certs and absolutely no experience that wanted to start a job making a lot more money than I do.[wink]

Get a job beneath the level identified by the certification and demonstrate the ability to do the job. Demonstrate the ability to back up the cert, and you keep working your way up from there. Eventually, you may work your way up to management where they suck that ability back out of you.

Paper shows an interest to do the job, experience shows someone willing to endure the trials of the long haul.

Me too, after the great dot-bomb, I got retrained as part of my severance from Yahoo and had a CCNA and MCSE but there were no jobs because the market was flooded with people who used to make $150k and were now working for $35K. I gave up and went back to motorcycles. I am currently working in sales and looking for a job.

I got my MCSE, CCA and a few other odd-ball vendor specific certs over the years and really only to bump my rates. I back my certs with close to 13+ years experience. The days of the Paper MCSE's are returning, but those folks are so easy to spot it isn't even funny. Then again I only ask a canidate about 5 questions in an interview. I really don't care what alphabet soup you have for certs, I care about how well you can divine solutions.

And yeah Gman, the saying goes... There the Right Way, the Wrong Way and the Microsoft way! Rumor still has it that the MCSE is going to track more towards the Cisco CCIE practical exam.. now that would make it worth it again!

Anybody want my job, because I don't want it. Right now, with the wife in the hospital, I need my job, but don't really want it. [abused]
