Olympic used cast lowers as late as 2004. I have seen gaps between the upper and lower, uppers and lowers that would not interchange from one rifle to another, fire control holes drilled crooked and out of dimension, chambers that looked like Century Arms did them and fire control components that were not hardened correctly. It sure is funny how when I am cutting down a front sight base fom a Stag, Bushy, Rock River, DPMS and similar I get a nice shower of white sparks that flare nicely and then the few Olympics that I have done shed dull orange streamers. That is a sign of poor quality steel.

I have several Oly lowers that I got in 98 or 99 sometime. All the pin holes were straight and in spec. The anodizing quality is excellent and as black as a whores heart.

My only complaint is that the mag well is on the tight side. I knew that going in. GI mags and the latest generation on EMags drop free just fine, some PMags dont.

I don't think Olympic makes cast lowers anymore. I have one of their K3B rifles and the lower is definitely forged. The fit between the upper and lower is nice and tight with no play. It's interchangeable with my other non-oly uppers and uses standard lower parts. I'm quite happy with it. I can't speak for their past products, but their current stuff seems fine.

FWIW I have a custom Stag rifle that's had over 7000 rounds through it and Im still waiting for my first malfunction. Lots of it was Wolf, I fired 1000 rounds of the crappy wolf without oiling or cleaning and it fed them all like a swiss watch. They have my recommendation
