Stag Arms vs. Olympic Arms uppers and lowers?.

Who make's a better upper receiver and stripped lower receiver, Stag Arms or Olympic Arms?. I've read a few good things about Stag Arms however they are a new company that has not been around for a long time. Olympic Arms has been around for long time and I've not heard to many good things or bad things about them. One thing that I want is for the upper and lower receiver to have a tight fit. Thanks.

Ok, Stag is not new at the game they are just new at marketing their own stuff.

From what I understand Stag is CMT's own logo.

CMT and LMT make almost everyones parts and forgings except Olympic which makes their own stuff.

Most of the brand names you would recognize aren't making anything, just assembling weapons with CMT and LMT parts.

Olympic Arms is know for tight tolerances in production and a tighter rifle than most. Oly also offers SUM (Stainless Ultra Match) broach cut barrels which will put almost all other AR barrel makers to shame. Mil-Spec puts accepted accuracy in the 2-3 MOA range where Olympic expects .5 MOA on their standard barrel and .25 MOA on SUM barrels.

To take a long explaination and summarize....both are excellent firearms and parts of which I personally own many of each.....all without fault.

EDIT: I would purchase which ever I could find at the best price.

I've got an Olympic K9GL (9mm AR).

I'm not especially impressed with the overall fit-and-finish, but it does run well.

I'm kind of under the impression Olympic stuff should be avoided in general. I only bought mine because nobody else offered anything like it.

I have a bunch of Oly lowers. No complaints.

I dont think I have ever bought a complete AR from anyone.

I also have some Eagles, Armalites, and a couple JPs.

if you put tape over any identifying marks on an ar i doubt anyone could tell who made what.
like osprey , whatever is priced right i will use.

Shot through an Oly 20" Target Match upper. 220yds .448" 1/4 MOA The first group was a different load than the lower one. 1/2 MOA for the top and 1/4 moa for the lower. I was working up loads for Hoser's Prairie Dog Steel. :-)

Olympic lowers are usually cast Aluminum.
Stag are forged.
Olympic is a lower teir manufacture that builds rifles with parts that did not make the QC cut from other manufacturers.
Stag is definitley an upper teir manufacture with first class fit, finish and parts.

Olympic only uses Forged recievers and has done so for most of it production life... (40 plus years)
Oly used cast reciever in the Plinker model only(not sold separately)...and only for a few years many many years ago. The current Plinker Plus uses forged recievers as well.

Low tier is funny. Somebody is drinking the Kool-aide over on AFR.

Olympic not only makes parts and complete firearms, they also sell parts to almost every other "manufacturer". Yes, Colt, RRA, DPMS, etc,.... most all of them have bought parts or continue to buy parts to make guns from Olympic Arms parts.

Those "Charts" are very centered to make a point... but they are not very accurate, or at the very least outdated.

To me accuracy is the most important.
Mil-Spec with a chrome lined barrel acceptable accuracy is 2-3MOA?? And that is a "Top Tier" rifle!

Another thing that like to be stated about Oly is their lack of staking the carrier.
Did you know there are 4 mil-spec acceptable ways to stake a carrier?? That "chart" only reflects one style as acceptable. Oly does stake the carrier, but not like most companies and yes, it is one of the mil-spec acceptable ways.

Before making bold statements about any manufacturer, make sure of the facts... not just pass on what you read in a manufacturer favored forum.
Try visiting oa2.org an Oly pwners forum and read about all the happy owners!... or at least get the real scoop on Olympic.
In the hunting AR community Olympic Arms are the most common followed closely by RRA, Bushmaster then DPMS. Remington is picking up ground fast with their AR's as well.

Does Oly make a good rifle.. you bet.
Can I find fault with Oly... You bet!
Their customer service isn't great, but they deal with you dirrectly. You don't have a middleman feeding you info.
I hate that they announce a new developement long before they can ever take it to market.
I don't like the tight tolerance in the mag well. You need to check each mag to make sure they are drop free.

Did you know that Olympic's pistol caliber platform was not only the original, but refused to sell the rights so that others could manufacture their design? Colt and RRA have repeatly tried and continue to sell the Colt style because they can't buy patent rights to sell the Olympic style.

Internationally Olympic is the most "forged" firearm reciever. There is a company in the Phillipines that copies their logo and name on the recievers. Some have made their way illegally into the states and have caused many problems for Olympic's reputation.
