I have had good luck with live traps, Harbor Freight sells them. A piece of raw chicken works real well.

I have 150+ pounds of worthless/stubborn as well! His name is Cletis, but he wouldn't have a clue what to do with a coon. Bloodhounds aren't really used for hunting that I'm aware of, just tracking for the most part. I think folks normally use Blue Tick's, or Redbone's. Coons mean business, and can kill a large dog in short order; especially in water by jumping on their back and drowning them. He's the weirdest dog I've ever had.....if you give him a treat like say 1 single M&M, he will play with it for at least an hour before he eats it! Can't help but love the dumb bastard though! Have you had problems with his/her feet? Cletis has had problems with toe nails splintering, crazy irritations, etc. I've been able to keep on top of it with Bag Balm, but he's been through a couple of painfull looking vet visits for his toe nails. I finally had to switch to the dremel like tool to trim his nails as opposed to the standard clippers. The vet told me it's common in hounds, and either they have CONSTANT problems or no problems. And trimming his nails, or giving him a bath is like WW3......my wife thought should could handle him while I was out of town once. It ended up with him knocking her into the bathtub, and him running outside with no intention of coming back inside, or anywhere near my wife for a day or two.

Sorry for the hijack!! Animal control should have traps to lend at no cost. I've done it several times to get the trouble critters out to where I can let it go, or give it some lead medicine. I've never let a coon go though; I plug them while they're still in the cage. They're fairly hard to kill, and I always worried about turning them loose and having them turn on me. Plus, I sell pelts so its a win win.

I have killed many o' animal with my 20 caliber benjamin sheridan pellet rifle as well... Bullet placement obviously key.

The .22 Benjamin Sheridan is super fun anyway.
I am shooting through a plywood target backing and I am more impressed by the power everytime I try to push it a little further. I have a XL1200 model if that helps? I noticed Wally World has Benjamin's on the shelf again.
If you go this route, the first few shots are loud then the pellet gun "breaks in" and becomes pretty quiet. When the pellet hits the target is usually louder the the shot itself!
I used to shoot pigeons for the local gas station owner in trade for frozen pizzas with a Benjamin .22 when I was a kid. Hell, I would do that again if the offer was still there.

trap them and then one shot in the head with a air rifle will do the trick. no noise and no racoon trying to kick your ass when you try to let them out of the trap. they are nasty and filthy with desease. they will tell all thier friends and family about your place and you must remove them. they will be in your house before you know it. dont mess around, get rid of them! wear gloves to handle them.
