    Default The solution to indecision

Wanting something cheap to practice shoot and move with and have my wife learn to shoot with, I was torn between the Mosquito, mostly due to the 90% size for her and Sig familiarity for me, and the 1911-22 for myself as another platform to become proficient with. I primarily shoot a P229, but enjoy shooting friend's 1911's.

I decided I'd pick up both and see how they fare, so I toddled on up to the Tanner show today. I had a good idea which dealer would have the best cash & carry price and was right to head over to the Denver Guns & Ammo table after quickly checking the others.

I'm well aware of the reported reliability issues of the Mosquito. Personally, I think any .22 rimfire platform requires using recommended and/or premium ammo and proper cleaning/lubing for reliability, but time will tell.

Also aware the Sig is the GSG.

I can't afford to be that indecisive. Nice looking guns, enjoy them! Let us know how you like the GSG, I've been looking at saving up for one of them.

Got to the range with these today. The Mosquito is near flawless. Pretty darn accurate and not one single FTF or FTE with 120 rds. I even started dropping one in the chamber and still used a full mag with no issues. I did have a few slide failure to lock on the last round. Pretty certain it's not me riding the slide release as I never have the issue with my P229, but this gun is 10% smaller so maybe...

Mosquito at 7yds. Iso stance. Still working on the both eyes shooting and breaking my Weaver stance habit.

While the 1911-22 is a tack driver, and probably better than I am, it was an utter jam-o-matic. 80% FTF with the first 40 rds. I installed the second washer on the guide rod, and that helped quite a bit, maybe 40% FTF of 40 rds but the recoil spring still feels too soft to me. I'll have to have one of my 1911 expert buddies take a look at it. He'll probably laugh, but I know he had a lot of trouble with his 1911 style .22LR. Not sure of the make, but it had the chamber loaded indicator on the side.

I would have shot them more, but with only one mag each, reloading them gets old quick. I did my P229 practice, shoot on the move, reloads, etc. building bad habits to break at the next class. Ran about 100 rds of the pricey stuff between the pistol range and finished off some broken clays after shooting on the black rifle range.

Warm up with the P229. The wild ones are first shot DAO and a snatch. Not sure why I was running left today. I think I might have been using too much weak hand grip and also not enough trigger finger - overcompensating trying to tighten my groups.

Groups here look like crap. The wild ones are mostly me shooting on the move or doing double taps with 2 rd mag changes for practice.

Since switching from grease to CLP, the 1911-22 runs like a champ!

My 1911 freak buddy ran it and was impressed.

Tore down the Mosquito and removed that damn mag safety. Looks like the mainspring has to be changed on the 1911-22 to remove that mag safety.
