Default Safe to hunt rabbits yet?

Its been cold in the foothills lately, down into the 20's. Think its safe yet to hunt some rabbit? I wanna go up and give them hell.

I was told the same thing another member said his dad told him... only go for rabbits in months that end in R.
    It is October.
Though I've eaten rabbits in the summer months and nothing bad came of it.

One reason to wait till its gotten below zero is the rabbits carry lice. After the first couple of freezes the lice die off.

this is my biggest thing. The cold kills the bugs off of them. I was thinking the fact that its been below 30 every night in the mountains is pretty good, but just not sure.

I'm waiting til nov but that's just cause that's when we go. I say get one and inspect it with gloves. The lice are not hard to spot if there alive. Good luck.

I usually wait until after the first hard freeze. and usually takes a couple freezes to get the bugs off.

Im at 8500', and other than a week or 2 ago, it hasnt been very cold. Id wait until it gets the next cold front comes in, and when it does, it will stay colder for the next several months! That front should be due right about Halloween.
