    Default AR-15/M4 (shorty) sling recommendations

    Gents,

I am curious as to your views or recommendations for a sling to replace the standard factory sling. I have a full sized Colt AR and a Bushy "AK-Shorty". Both my rifles have standard front hand guards and standard (non collapsing) stocks. I would like to replace both slings eventually. I like what I see in the "tactical sling" arena today. When I was in the service in the mid 80s we did all sorts of "stuff" with para-cord, duct tape (we called it 1000 MPH tape at the time) and what ever else we could find. The end result was we wanted then and I want now to be able to carry the rifle slung, but still in the "at the ready" position. I noticed there are a number of devices that attach to the front sight for side sling attachment. Is there any manufacturer out there that makes a nice sling for "side sling" mounting that does not require the additional cost of the hardware. It seems expensive to get the front sight mounted side sling apparatus and the rear stock side mount then have to buy the sling on top of all that. I have seen some nice front sight mounts that have a short little picatinny rail on one side and the sling swivel on the other but they are around the $50-$90 mark each. Perhaps this is the best way to go, and I need to just bite down and buy all three parts (front mount, rear mount then sling)? Let me know please.

    Thanks guys!

There is actual a thread for dis.. but I'm not a big fan of the 3 point slings nor the single points. I use M60 slings on all my AR's and on my PTR91. I did add a small loop of 550 cord and HK style metal snap hooks (DIY tactical has them for $1.25ea) so they are quick detatch.

Marpat is working on a home made 3 point sling that will be interesting if he ever gets it done. Then again he's finally gotten his own AR and now has motivation to knock it out finally.

a regular GI web sling will do wonders for your shooting in a loop sling or a hasty sling and they cost all of 5 to 10 dollars

I am a huge fan of the Wilderness slings. Jensen's has them in stock or you can order from http://thewilderness.com/catalog/def...2fa5a113b4bc8c

No weird mounting stuff, it just goes on in seconds and is very well made. I forget what I paid for mine, but whatever it was, it was worth it.

I'm not sure if I like his tone! Just got one incorrect buckle, but I'll snag the right one soon. I know he's just razzing me a little for being a better shot! [roll]

All joking aside, I am pleased that I've finally added a RRA to my modest collection.

Have you seen this DIY one on AR-15.com? I have made a couple and they are pretty nice. Cheap to make too. Of course I have made a couple of modifications to make it better.
