Default Anyone fill their elk tags yet?

Just curious who all had success opening morning? We went saturday and hunted all day, heard something that was spooked bolting thru the woods, but saw nothing. Didnt look like anyone else got anything in 511 either. Going back out monday to test our luck again.

Nope, jumpped a bull that was in the 300's 1hour into the first day, then had bulls within 25 yards multiple times but passed in hopes of getting a shot at a bigger bull. Then I did not get a shot the last two days and watched the sun go down hoping for a last minute shot, but it did not come. Then to add insult to injury the elk that I was chasing that day followed me all five miles that I had to hike back to my truck in the dark. The bulls bugled back and forth from what sounded like less than 50 yards.

    Default Unit 85

If it keeps going like this i'm thinking of strapping a tire on the grill and start driving the backroads.

I know that five of the six guys that I have class with already got theirs out of 85, and 851. I have a friend that lives on ten acres in 85, that is where I am going this week to see what I can do my first time out.

We're going back out monday and tuesday in 511 to see if one of us can tag out. Hoping that less pressure, and the weather coming in will get them moving(if they do as whitetails do). Will be doing 55 or some other unit next year.

    Default Elk

Saw a trailer with two elk heads on it an I-25 today. Small ones though.

GMU 21 was a little bit hot for the elk still. I did have a guy pick up a5x5 about 400 yards away from us. Makes me sad and happy for the guy at the same time.

Went from 9k-12k feet saturday and sunday in 45. Over a couple different mountains, covered a lot of ground. Heard nothing, saw only older tracks and evidence. Heard one shot, supposed guy got an elk at about 9500'. Not sure if they are just not in the that whole area much, or still higher, but no one was seeing anything but older tracks, and older evidence.

All four of my group got skunked. First season, and I didn't see anything while bow hunting.

Unfortunately I came home empty handed this year. I didn't really have much time to get out but the little time I was didn't bring much luck. Oh well I guess there is always next year.
