Default Cartridge choices for plinking / shooting for fun

As much as I enjoy shooting .22's, I find myself not bringing my semi-auto .22's to the range much lately.

I just hate picking up .22 brass.

The same goes for 9mm. In addition, 9mm brass has an uncanny ability to find every piece of .41 magnum brass and nest inside it.

    I'd guess lately I shoot more .38 special than anything. Revolvers and lever-action. Still lots of .223 / AR-15. Lever-action .41 magnum, and some bolt-action 260 Remington.

I've also found I don't like sorting 9mm from 40 S&W, so I really try not to bring both to the range on the same occasion.

Any bolt action usually lets you police the brass pretty easy....or a single shot.

I use a brass catcher on my AR's because it is easier to re-use my 6x45 brass than make new ones.

Try sorting 40 S&W from 10mm....even harder than 9mm and 40. I end up just looking at primer size to sort these.

The real bugger of mine is using my CETME in .308. It flings brass about 20 yards forward and to the right usually putting it in front of the firing line. Because of the fluted chamber you can't reload it, but I try to pick it up all the same. My Mini-14 used to throw brass only half as far.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

    That's exactly the rationale I'm using to justify a bolt-action .22.

I shoot alot of 22 out of my 22 upper.

    Otherwise manly 22, 223, 9mm and 40.

The last time i got any other calibers out was exclusivley for training purposes.

Your brassing 22? I will pick up everything but 22.

For plinking I like just about any 22 and a 9x19. And with my new 10/22 I dont need earplugs.
