    Default Benelli Nova?

I've owned various configurations of 870s for years. I went to Sportsman's Warehouse today with the intent of getting an 870 express for field use. I liked the way the Benelli Nova fit and pointed so bought one instead of the Express. Got home and tore it down. the internals seem rather flimsy/cheesy compared to an 870. Did I make a mistake?
Input from long term users appreciated.

Well I know you posted this some time ago. I bought one in August. I know and have handled the Rem 870's and is the only one several PD's use. I also know many other LEO's are issued/buy the Benelli Nova's and supernovas (usually the nova's) but I have never had a problem with mine. I've only put about 1000 rounds through it. Everything is smooth, easy to field strip, maintain, simple yet very practical.

I have yet to take it small game hunting, but the little forend push-button contraption is a genius idea.

There's my thoughts and review if it helps. Nope, I don't think you made a mistake at all.

    Mtnguy,

Thanks for your input. Since the original post I've shot several rounds of trap with it and am happy with it. I did replace the hard rubber butt pad with a Limb Saver recoil pad, what a difference! Just to try it out I put 25 rounds of 3 1/2" magnums through it and they feel like 2 3/4" field loads with the Limb Saver on.

    Take care,

Yep that's my experience too. I did put the limbsaver and just for kicks tried the recoil reducer as well...I'm not sure the recoil reducer did too much, but it just may be me. I would try to take everything back out, shoot the fuill house 3/5"mag loads to see, then put everything back in and repeat the shot to compare but I know it might hurt a little...so when I do shoot those I just know they are doing their job and I've left it at that.

Good to hear you have found it to be good also.

Do you go to the IDPA matches?

No I've not competed in any matches since I retired a year ago.

My buddy got one last year for Xmas. Went shooting a few days later. Get to the trap range. Get ready to shoot, he calls pull.... click... checks to see if he was loaded, was. Pull... click.... Every one is looking at him like come on dude... Trys again, pull...... click....... After listing to his Nove I could tell it sounded wrong. So I take it aside and take a look at her. After a little field stripping I found that it did not have a firing pin, wtf? I thought I was on crack to say the least. Take it back to the store tell the gun guns it was missing the firing pin they also thought I was on crack and gave me the you dumb ass kid look. Then they realized I was right, and then ordered the part. After that we went shooting again and his Nove worked great. Looks good shoots well. So long as you have the pin your set

I bought a 18" barrel Nova about two years ago. I attended a Defensive shotgun course soon after, and put about 200 shells through it. It performed flawlessly, I really liked it's light weight and feel over a 870. I'd still like to have an 870 too!
