    Default Public Range in GJ

I went to the GJ public range on Monday. It's at the end of 27 1/4 Road (west side of the airport). I shot on the pistol range - the rifle range is to the east. Don't know if it reaches to 500 yds, though.

Yeah, the Book Cliff Range, I think it's called. Like Rooster said, west of the airport to 27 1/4 Rd., then north. It's a long ways out there, pretty rough dirt road, and I don't know how far the longest target area is, but you'd probably need a 4x4 to get out there, it's pretty rough terrain that far out.

The rifle range is covered though, and has a nice, long steel bench. But I'd recommend bringing bean bags or some kind of rifle rest, maybe a tall chair (there's nothing to sit on), and a thick mover's blanket to put on the steel benchtop would be nice too. Definitely need your own targets and stand too.

It's a very remote area, and while there may not be any shooters around, I'd recommend taking a buddy. If you're out at the 500 yd. target area, all of your stuff could disappear quickly. I'd leave one guy at the bench while the other changes targets. I've seen some shady characters out there, wear a sidearm if possible. But I think it's great that the place is out there, every community should have a public shooting area.

I've also picked up a lot of nice brass out there too.
