    Default I eff-ing hate apartments

The assclowns at my complex neglected to keep the unoccupied unit next to me from freezing....it thawed yesterday and popped a 1/2" copper line while I was at work. Would have had a chance to catch the problem early if I hadn't stopped at Wallyworld to clean out their 9mm inventory. It's a real good thing I hadn't flown down to Dallas for the week.

Water came both under the door and up from underneath, into ~25% of the carpet. The bedroom (with the safe bolted to the slab) was spared, whew. Have stuff stacked in the dry areas and waiting to hear what the fate of the carpet is. Pretty lucky, I guess, but still pretty pissed off. Total damage to my stuff is < insurance deductable.

I would have to get a different job before a house would be feasible, dammit. Anyone need a chemical engineer, 10yrs out of school?

Here is a nice view of the stairwell that greeted me yesterday evening, about 2" deep and rising at the time of the pic.

    welcome to the apartment industry.

You got off lucky, last year i had a fire sprinker line freeze and pop on the third floor.

Edited to add: that was 1 of 12 freezes and floods in 1 week.

Also be happy that they used copper, in newer buildings they us CPVC and that stuff explodes when it freezes.

If you need any advice on dealing with your complex, pm me.

I had my downstairs flood. Like you my safe was spared, or so I thought. I looked inside after the flood and all of my guns had a light coat of rust do to the high humidity in the house. You might want to clean your guns coat with silicone and add an extra desicant pack.

Thanks for the tip - I dropped three desiccant packets in there just now. Don't have to worry about the Yugo in cosmoline or the Glock at my elbow.

The carpet is drying, and I sure as hell am out of here at the end of the lease. Mold won't be growing that soon. Got off reaaaaaal lucky, considering.
