I've got a Remington 700 WSM action I was thinking of building. Thought the 6.5 looked like a cool caliber. Anyone have some history with it?

sounds interesting, would it be just for paper punching or hunting as well? if you want to hunt with it as well maybe look into the .325 wsm or the 6.5x68mm schuleroh your action is probably too short for the schuler

For hunting, competition, or plinking? There is a balance between barrel life and velocity. Most matches have a maximum velocity between 3,100 - 3,200 fps.
Check out the ballistics on the 7WSM. Especially the 180 VLD. The 162 A-MAX is also a great bullet.
Not to mention, you won't have to change barrels every 1000 rounds.
