Well, I carried an Emerson commander for two years, and yes, the only thing faster is a fixed blade. Right now my edc on days off of work is a Cold Steel AK-47 in the right front pocket. For on the job, I carry a CRKT m21 in the right front pocket, an emeraon SARK in the left front pocket, and an Izula in my left boot.

For EDC folder, just easier to carry and the sheeple won't look at you.

I am not sure about a fixed blade for EDC. I think it would get in the way and the length of an effective carry piece would cause carry issues along with
scaring the sheeple that your some crazy guy.

What are your daily needs for a knife other than having apocket knife for an unforseen need
or is due to the nature of your job?

I carried a Zero Tolerance 0301 for the last 5 years or so. I was in the oilfield and
needed a robust knife that could take the abuse I have given it. I recently(this weekend) switched to
and Emerson Commander, same blade length and a whole lot lighter. I think
it will stand up to the paces I will throw at it now. I am not in the field anymore so I doubt I need
such a beefy knife as I once did. Ya never know though.
The "Wave shaped opening feature" actually opens the blade a lot quicker then an automatic
and with a little practice you are ready to go in a blink of an eye. I really like that
    feature.

Big big big +1 for Emerson.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?

DD977GM2, my thoughts were how fast you could get the blade in action. I carry a Microtech Combat Troodon and a cheap Browning knife. The MT is now more of a conversation piece, and for show than a actual defensive last ditch weapon (should of thought about that before I spent so much, but was blinded by how bad ass it was). I was not thinking about if the knife would be subjected to a beating, but more on if under stress, and I did go for my blade would it fail, stuck, not lock, or just would I drop it like tard trying to open it. I was thinking a fixed blade would solve those problem, but the trade off would be size, and how to carry it. Thanks for the input I do like ZT and Emmerson knive!!!

My SOG folder is fantastic, never had any problems, I've carried it literally every day for the last 4 years and used it for ranch work. if you spend money for quality, a good folder won't do you wrong. However, a fixed blade (such as the mini KaBar or full size one) are fantastic, but a little hard to carry every day.
