Been getting ready for tree cuttin' season. A few recent acquisitions.
Kelly Works True Temper Flint Edge double bit axe, 2.1lbs, mid '50s vintage
The Flint Edge was KWTT's mid range offering. The head is in decent shape but the handle was not. A little surface rust and few nicks in the blades. It's sitting on the bench waiting for a rehab.
Beatty Edge Tool Co. broad axe, 5.1lbs, 10" blade, Turn of the century
Used for hewing logs and railroad ties, this is a big hunk of metal. Sitting in the vise, the surface rust is gone, leaving a nice patina. The blade steel is HARD.
The Sharpening An Axe thread got me to thinking. This is all I have ever used to sharpen an axe.
Flat bastard file
Two sided whet stone
3 in 1 type oil
Bevel gauge

Glad you updated this. Reminds me I still need to look for an ax before camping season sets in.![]()
