You know you need one. I think I have more 1911s than shotguns and rifles combined. Everying from 22s to 9x19s to 38 Supers to 40s to 10 to 45ACP. I just ordered two more frames a couple weeks ago.

The STI and SVI Double stacks arent much thicker than a single stack 1911 with normal grips. Heck, my carry gun is a STI Commander sized 1911 in 38 Super. 17 rounds of +P, under 27 ounces, loaded.

Spend the money on more ammo and training.

Long story kinda... I had been carring a Springfield Custom with about another $1200 done to make it ultra-reliable. It would even feed empty shells from the mag at 100%.

I took the new G22 out of the box, cleaned the bore, filled a mag and fired side by side targets 50 rounds one of the 1911, and the other the Glock. Well darned if my group wasn't 1/2 the size with the Glock over my favorite 1911.

I've repeated this exercise with other 1911's and other people being the shooters many many times....all with the same results.

Within a year I only had my National Match Colt left and now owned 6 Glocks.

Over the years I got out of Law Enforcement and I do no longer own a 1911; but I kept one Glock...my best shooter a G20 in 10mm. More energy, more velocity and more ammo on board.

I pretty much feel the same. My first pistol was a Springfield 1911, and I really do like it. It's been surprisingly reliable without having to work the bugs out. BUT.....it is pretty much relegated as Queen of The Safe anymore as I'm having a long love affair with Glocks. I guess my needs changed. But I still think 1911's are aesthetically the most handsome handgun out there and everyone should own one. If I were to do it over again, however, I would of gone with a Wilson or Les Baer. A lot more expensive but better to do it right the first time.

So with that said....buy a Wilson AND a Glock!!!!

    :P

    I think something like Zak's 9x19 makes a lot of sense where major power-factor isn't a concern.

I have plenty of glocks. Have been wanting a fullsize 1911 for a long time.

I'm guessing here, but most of the posters seemed to have favorable reviews.

Well, I decided to do some of my own 'legwork' (if you can call it that when Google Is Your Friend).

    http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=137762

VERY positive reviews through mid September.

Overall impression for that thread is that for the money, it can't be beat.

Only negatives that're consistent are the finish and trigger, and trigger pull seems to vary between 7lbs and 3.5lbs. Some don't like the squareness of the front strap, and some don't like the sights or the keylock (which many pointed out can be unlocked and ignored), but overall it seems to be a good one. Initial posts had some FTFeed/slidelock problems with the stock mags, but the more recent ones didn't seem to have any problems, and all posts pointed to most any 1911 mags working. It also appears to be the Glock of 1911s in that it'll eat anything that's the right diameter as far as ammo goes (Wolf and Blazer aluminum included), with the exception of some JHPs that FTFeed on the first round.

If you can find one. I haven't called around locally or read any of the more recent threads on 1911forum but based on this one it looks like a Taurus is in my future. A Taurus that won't try to rip my hand off my arm like the last one I fired :P

    What? :P

Since PI3 brought it up, I think the Quality of Taurus was help greatly since that came out, including they're pistols, even though there was a bit of a lag with them. everyone I have handled recently has had a feel of quality to it. Can't say that with the ones pre model 454.
