    Default Crossroads/SAR report

Just got back from a roadtrip to the SAR show in Pheonix. The show was aprox. 3000 tables total and about 900 in the SAR bldg (from what SAR says). It was a good show and worth the trip. I was there from 9a-4p and just barely saw it all. There was all the AR/black gun stuff you could want, and some good deals to be had, but took some looking. Ammo was not the deal I thought it would be. There was more of it, but at the same prices as at a Denver show. I think the big dealers just operate at too close a margin to get any really great deals. For the stastically inclined, It was aprox 850 miles from Co. Spgs, took 12 hours to drive and about 100$ in gas (in my ,02 Blazer). And it was 14 bucks to get into the show. WTF? If you go to this show, be ready to spend some $$$, I could have spent alot more than I took. If you are interested in NFA/full auto, I HIGHLY recommend a subscription to Small Arms Review. ( Delphi, I,m talking to you) WWW.SMALLARMSREVIEW.COM On a personal note, one of Linda's close friends died Friday and we just found out today, so we are dealing with that. Ryan

It was the mother of one of Linda's nurse friends. Thanks for the thoughts. I let Will help me put on a new rail system on my M-16, I don't know what he is all upset about.

    Ryan,

Have you fired your new M11 upper? Who manufactuers those, is it Stoney creek armory? That new setup looks pretty cool, I was thinking of building a similar one, semi auto only though. Details and pics please :P

I would have to do some looking, it would be an SBR gun if you did a semi version.Personally, if I was going to go thru the effort I would do something way cooler, like an HK 51 or something. Ryan

I went to SAR, but flew Southwest out of DIA. My RT ticket was $138 with taxes so it was a reasonable deal. A buddy of mine drove so I had the luxury of a light suitcase each way.

Ryan is right, this show is HUGE by Colorado standards. The Crossroads show went on forever.

I got to go to dinner with Doug Melton of SRT Arms who is a local. Really nice and interesting guy. I'm very happy with the suppressed 77/44 I bought from him a couple of years back.

My friend bought a MG34 Presample in pristine shape. His F3 was approved in a week (damn, they are getting fast!). I settled for lots of spare parts, a few mags, Blake Stevens' new book on the history of the roller lock action, an AR upper, a HK 416 logo 6-pos stock, and signed up on some waiting lists. I also enjoyed hanging out with the gang from the Uzitalk.com board which made quite a showing.

Bowers was there selling the Akins stocks. Saw a couple of folks carrying them around. oops.

The downer of the show: The KNS guys got ripped off. Lost a truck, a wad of cash, their products and some guns. The story I heard is that the BG's likely marked them and followed them from the show to a restaurant and took the truck while they were inside. I guess the lesson is that you can't be too careful down there!

It was a nice trip and good to escape the cold snap we had here at the time.
