Default A few out to go shooting

I took out a few guns to go shooting today:

The top one is a DTech 20" SUM chambered in 6x45
    A K23 style 7.5" pistol w/ red-dot
    An entry/LE A2 Dissipator
A K9 Olympic 9mm carbine with Ace stock.
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Very nice that scoped AR15 is begging for a suppressor. [wink]

The Oly 9mm what kind of mags does it use? I really want to get a 9mm upper but don't know what to get.

Hunter CO, with it pushing 6mm 60 grain pills at 3400ft/sec I think supressing it would be a waste. Evebn with a heavier bullet like the 107 grain they are still traveling at 2450ft/sec.
BTW that is a full non-fluted barrel under the handguards and there is a lead weight in the butt-stock. With scope/rings, bi-pod and a 20 round mag the weight of that rifle comes in at 16.5 lbs.

The Olympic uses a modified 32 round Sten mag, so there is no mag adaptor...or... regular Sten mags with a mag well adaptor. I opted for the 1st option as Sten mags were not very well known for QC and the mag catch hole varies by as much as .200" and there are a lot of folks that can't get them to feed well with the mag well adaptors. If you are into tinkering you can adjust each magazine to make them work though.

I like the 9mm Oly vs. RRA/Colt because you can install the upper on any lower and nothing needs to be changed on the lower. The RRA/Colt will require a hammer, buffer spring and buffer change to make them function reliabily.

Olympic originally designed the pistol caliber uppers and Colt before and after designing their own wanted production right to copy Olympic's design. They were turned down...and hense you know why there are 2 styles of pistol cal uppers on the market today.

Olympic has made and sold 30-50,000 of these, many going to Israel....Colt...less than 5,000, most going to Law Enforcement

A lot of times these folks will give you 10% off you 1st order:
    http://www.jsgunparts.com/ $575 - 10%
That would make a complete upper w/ mag $517.50...complete rifle and Oly wants like $900.
www.atlanticfirearms.com had the 2nd best pricing

Maybe I'll finally make it to a shoot and you can try it out. My 5 year old loves it.

    Scott....
    I haven't attended a shoot yet.
Weekends are tough for me to get off.

Sounds like we have a few new 9mm AR's running around the club. I'll be interested to see the diff between the two types, I'm using a RRA, just can't wait to shoot the bugger!

Thanks for the info that helped me out a lot on deciding what to get. You need to come to a shoot so you can hear what a suppressor really does. Yes a .223 is super sonic but you will not believe how much difference it makes you could shoot that gun without hearing protection. A suppressor will not eliminate the sonic crack but 90% of the noise is muzzle blast. It basically sounds like an un-suppressed .22 rifle pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

You also need to come to a shoot so I can check that 9mm upper out and ask more questions. My first question is can I get that 9mm upper in say around 10"?

HunterCO...yes they make it in shorter lengths...but it's more expensive of course because there standard 9mm barrel is cut at 16". If you order it for Olympic...yes you can order dirrect just an upper...you can specify order options that are not on any list. There would be a $50 custom fee...no parts fee to just cut it down. I've heard of a few even being cut down to the 7" range.
Be prepared to wait if you want anything "custom," wait times have been almost 1 year.

Because it is a blow back type action...no gas system....you can have a local gun smith cut it back and re-crown the barrel to any length you want....faster delivery and you won't have to wait a year for the upper.

Of course if it's legal...like you are installing a bla.bla.bla. or it's a SBR...bla.bla.bla. we all know the laws..........

    Just CYA ya know.

My choice if I had a DIAS

If you have any 9mm pistols you might want suppress I would go with the Trident instead of the QD3K.

That's real close to Olympics original pistol caliber rifle that they sent to Israel....no optics, just A2's...and that was decades ago.
