    Default Shooting site cleanups

seriously... what can we do about keeping shooting sites clean.

we already are outspoken about it.

we leave places better than we found 'em

we don't let others get away with leaving their crap or shooting things that shouldn't be shot.

most of the really bad cr@p happens at places we don't frequent and I know it's not anyone we know (better not be) [poke]

what can we do to bring a stop to these jackasses who leave a mess?

pointing fingers doesn't do a damn thing except make us look like lieberals.

i don't think there is anything we can do other than try to make as positive of example as we can. it only takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch. there is no way to police a public range 24 hours a day 7 days a week. the people making the mess don't really care about the range anyway. they are breaking the rules already. i don't think they would care if the range closes or not. this is one of the reasons i do 99.9% of my shooting at my own home and not at a range. other than you never know when the yahoo shooting next to you might be a moron

Regular cleanup days coordinated with the USFS. It seems to make them happy at Pawnee...

Well, we could posts signs at any place we go to, would cost us, but maybe USFS/NP would help defray the costs if we commit to helping clean up a few times a year?

...seriously, I think so far BadShot's suggestion might be a good idea. Just some simple messages might help remind people that they can't take the land for granted. But why would it cost us, why wouldn't the USFS pay for the signs? It seems like something they would want more of.

At any rate, I'm up for helping out with the clean ups.

Oh, I might add that if design work needed to be done for any signs (if you were to go that route) then I would be happy to donate my time to help with that, as graphic design is what I do for a living.

signs saying there is a clean up x number of times / year wont do anything but say "hey, go ahead and leave a mess, someone cleans it up x times / year"

My goal is that EVERYONE cleans up after themselves, not that the place gets cleaned up. If everyone did what they're supposed to, a cleanup day wouldn't be needed.

Well I agree signs with that kind of message wouldn't affect squat, no doubt. But what if they said something like, "Shooters: Make sure to clean up everything that you brought in! The USFS requires that these lands stay clean blah, blah, blah...". Something like that, I dunno. Would that make any difference :?:

[postal] Perhaps the signs should say this area is maintained by gun owners -- and you should think twice about pissing off anybody with guns.
