Match shooting questions

Hi everybody!
I'd like to try and shoot a match this year. I'm a novice shooter and I will need practice to be honest.

I have several questions I'd like addressed about match shoots.
If anybody has the time to answer some of them I would be very greatful.

About a year and a half ago I broke my back on an ATV accident.
One of my vertebra was crushed. Now I have 2 Titaneium bars and 6 screws in my back.

What are the basic differances in the type of matches available?
So now I can not shoot trap or skeet any more. I'm not quite sure about the standing position with a weight of a rifle. I've not tried it after my back has healed.

Do I have to be a member of a club to shoot a match?
Do they have public matches? Are there different classes?
or does everybody from expert to begginers compete against each other?
What is an average match fee? Where can I find dates and places for upcoming matches?

What positions do they usually have the shooters shoot from.
I have pretty much standard rifles, not $3000.00 rifles.
It's important to me that it will be fun, If I have to spend a small fortune
on guns and ammunition reloading equipment. I could see it becoming
too serious and not so much fun. But I could be wrong. I've been wrong before.

Would I stand a chance if I use store bought ammo? Do most matches
have a set number of shots at different distances, Then take the best groupings shot? I'm not getting any younger and I'd like to try a match.
Do you think I should just go and watch a match to get a feel for it?
Or should I just jump right in and go for it?

Find the kind of match you want to shoot.
Probably "Benchrest Rifle"
Go watch, ask questions.
People are usually more than willing to help a new guy.

Where to look? I think both Boulder Gun Club, and Aurora Gun Club have listings of their Benchrest rifle matches online. You could start there.
