There is a law that says you can not discharge a firearm within 300 feet of a dwelling or structure, occupied or not. We were near an old sheep shed, miles from any house or home and he got a ticket.

EDIT...kinda hard to find...I believe it was a National Forest Service reg.

Now it comes up every time he wants to buy a new gun...making him wait 24 hours for a response.....what a hassle.
You are correct in the fact that it is illegal to "Target shoot" within 150 yrds. of any campground, structure, trail or road. It however is not illegal to hunt under those circumstances.

I will call Pike National Forest tomorrow just to make sure. Something else to remember is each agency varies as to what there rules are. Just because something is legal in Pike NF does not mean it would be legal for instance in Arapahoe NF.
