Default shot my remington 597 for the 1st time and had major problems

SO I bought this remington 597 from another member on here in like january and I finaly got a chance to shoot it and I couldnt get the thing to hit anything wich really wasnt a huge suprise since it has a TASCO scope that is way to big riding on the barrel. But the big disappointment came when I was shooting and a spring got lodged in the chamber and it would not eject. So what happened was somehow the ejector came loose and it was ejected along with the ejection plunger. Has anybody else had this problem? Is there a better fix then just replacing the lost parts? And in your opinion what is the best scope for this gun?

Ok so I had a old leupold mx8 wich is a straight 4x and is made in USA

Do you think this is a good scope for a 22?

and I also ordered a extractor and a hammer from volquartsen. Then I ordered a spring and extractor plunger from midway I think. Do you think I need anything else to make this thing rock steady?

    Default Rem 597

I had one of these when they first came out as well as the 17HMR version. Remington hyped the 22lr version as the gun that would replace the Ruger 10-22 and would just about never need cleaning. Based on my experiences with the two that I had they are complete junk. The 17 HMR never fired a complete mag without something going wrong. The 22LR had various feeding problems that were all magazine related. Remington came out with a new magazine to replace the original plastic one and then came out with yet another to replace the second one. I think that the latest magazines solved most of the feeding problems.
If you go over to rimfirecentral.com there is a forum dedicated to the 597. You should be able to find all the info you would ever need. From what I understand, the newer guns are better and can be made to shoot pretty well with a few mods.
    Good luck with your venture.

Mine is the aac-sd wich means it has a threaded barrel fur a suppresor and it came with a metal mag so its a new version but it still has problems. From what I read on other forums people either love them to death or they absolutly dispise them thats why I took a chance and bought the upgrades if it doesnt work out I guess it will be on armslist.
