It is required to have the stamp with the item when out of the house. I have copies in my range bag as it would not be the first time i was 1/2 way there and went #$%^&*, turn around.

Forget any dow ord, NFA items MUST have the documentation with the said part when out & about. I made reduced size copies that fit in my wallet.

my apologies, I think I didn't state the situation correctly that I wanted the ordinance for:

If I get stopped by DOW, I can very easily produce a copy of the form, no problem.

What if Trooper McTuffNutz tells me it's illegal to hunt with them in (insert state name here)..?

Hoser's link says, yes it's legal, but it doesn't give the relevant section. The other side of that is that Trooper McSwizzleStick must cite me for breaking some law or ordinance, then the responsibility is on me for going to court and proving Trooper McClamBake wrong. Sounds like a PITA.

I'll just hunt at night, with NVGs, from my car.

TheBelly, no one can tell you the ordinance that allows you to hunt with a suppressor in Colorado. It does not exist.

There is no statute or regulation to makes it illegal.

That's the way criminal codes are written. To give notice of what is forbidden.

18-12-102. Possessing a dangerous or illegal weapon - affirmative defense

    (1) As used in this section, the term "dangerous weapon" means a firearm silencer, machine gun, short shotgun, short rifle, or ballistic knife.

    (2) As used in this section, the term "illegal weapon" means a blackjack, gas gun, metallic knuckles, gravity knife, or switchblade knife.

    (3) A person who knowingly possesses a dangerous weapon commits a class 5 felony. Each subsequent violation of this subsection (3) by the same person shall be a class 4 felony.

    (4) A person who knowingly possesses an illegal weapon commits a class 1 misdemeanor.

    (5) It shall be an affirmative defense to the charge of possessing a dangerous weapon, or to the charge of possessing an illegal weapon, that the person so accused was a peace officer or member of the armed forces of the United States or Colorado National Guard acting in the lawful discharge of his duties, or that said person has a valid permit and license for possession of such weapon.

True...it doesn't say you HAVE to carry it with you. However, if you dont you'll probably be arrested for violating this law, and then you'll have the joyus experience of trying to get your property back after you show you possesed a valid permit.

Being found to be in possession of a "dangerous weapon" (i.e. suppressor) without having any paperwork with you to show that you are allowed to have it will give Johnny Law probable cause to place you under arrest for a class 5 Felony. You'll beat the charges later, but why get sent to jail and then go through the fun of trying to get your stuff back from the agency that will have it in evidence. That isn't a fun process.

In short, CARRY YOUR FORM 1 OR 4 WITH YOU!!! (or a copy)

Hunting with a can has nothing to do with being a "tacitCool sniper guy"

Try, not needing hearing protection while shooting prairie dogs and not scaring coyotes out of the area you are hunting them in. Just to name a few.
Youth is wasted on the young.
