I'm a little biased but the 700 AAC-SD is also a great option. It's cheaper then the 5r too, which gives room for a good trigger and a good stock. Not a bad shooter outta the box either, a different stock is a huge improvement though on these guns.

Ask yourself if are you going to benefit from a 5R or will the PSS/SPS series suffice?
Either will outshoot the operator most of the time and the PSS/SPS are going to be easier and cheaper to find. Gives you more moolah to sink into upgrades that suit your style.

As far as budget goes i'll have to def. Save up to outright buy. That is part,of the reason I want to piece it together.

I was actually thinking of getting a sps then later on having it trued.
Then changing out the chassis

There isn't any difference between the barreled actions on the SPS and the PSS rifles the difference is in the stocks . The SPS guns are usually 1MOA or better rifles in a good stock and trigger . Plan on spending more money on glass than the gun .

I took a SPS Varmint in 308 and hung it in a Devcon bedded Greybull Precision stock with a Timney trigger.
The rifle is scary accurate, dime and nickle sized groups at 100(all the further I have gotten it so far)
I think I have $850 or so in it. You could probably get the cost down a bit more with a take off HS or used B&C stock.
Very happy with it so far.
When you get it we can check the bolt lugs for true as well as the crown of the muzzle.
Those few little tweaks probably have a greater impact then a trued action. Most folks go with an upper tier barrel when they get the action trued and that is where the biggest improvement is seen.

So iwas looking earlier & found a sps varmint 308 26 in heavy barrel i think it was $579 @ gander mtn. Thats probably gonna be the starting point. what do you guys think of the macmillan A5 Stock.?
