    Default Hi-cap 30'06?

Is there such a thing, and if so, where could I find one? I'm looking for something in the 1000.00 range - figured it would be prudent considering the current relative availability and low cost of mil-surp '06 ammo. Seeing as how the surplus .308 supply is drying up, I'd like to diversify.

My second question is: will the new Browning BARs accept original mil-spec BAR 20 round magazines? That would solve my problem.

I think the BM 59 was .308 Don't hold Me to that though. I think the MAS 49 was '06.

    the BM59 is a .308

you can get or used to be able to get ramline 10rd mags for the remington 7400/7600 series of pump and auto loading .06 rifles.
for your price range i'd buy a used garand those clips hold 8rds of .06
and they are very nice/accurate shooters. until i got out of .30 cal stuff i had a few .308 converted garands 3 full size and 2 tankers.

BM59/62 were in 7.62 Nato. MAS-49 is 7.5 French. New BARs take a different magazine than the original, unless you're talking about the new semi-auto version of the military BAR. But those are around $2k. Cobb manufacturing makes a fine rifle that takes original BAR magazines http://www.cobb50.com/mcr.htm About the only one you can find for less than $1k is the FN-49 in 30-06. Scarce, usually beat up, but fun. Most FN-49s are in 8mm or 7.7(?).
