    Default .300 RUM-Bank account drainer

"semi custom" build by Bill Sturtevant in Pueblo off my Sendero. If you Southern CO guys want work on your bolt guns, he is the guy to see.

.300 RUM with a Hart SS 26" BBL with "blued" finish, 1-10 twist as I want to shoot the "heavies" a little far. Action & trigger trued up.

200 gr "break in" rounds grouped 1/2". I can't wait to see what it does when I find the 240 gr. load.

Nice  I have a rem 700 BDL custom deluxe in 300 RUM. I love that gun it has a 28" BBL with a brake and trigger job also. The balistics of that caliber are the best on the planet you can't find anything that will touch it as far as how flat it shoots.

I use mine for elk I am guessing you are looking at long range competition? I would like to know how the heavier bullets do as far as how flat it shoots compared to other calibers of comparable bullet weight.

I use 180 grn swift sciroccos anything out to 500 yrds I just put fur in the scope and its dinner.

    Thanks Hunter,

You can't go wrong with the .300. Only thing that surpasses it in .30 is the .30-378, and that IS expensive! I love the hell out of the round.

The 240's I plan on shooting aren't going to shoot "flat", I'm looking to minimize wind "dope" with their .702 BC. I am pretty accurate on drop, but wind kicks my arse, so I figured I will get as efficent as I can. And the .240 will stay supersonic further than that of other .30 bullet weights, so if I REALLY want to push my luck, I can try over 1000 and still have good energy.

I won't compete against anyone but myself, and there are some great shots out there! I would have to win the lottery and quit my job to compete with those guys! If I can consistently hit an 11" gong at 1000, I'll be happy. Hopefully, this rig will let me achieve that.

Before I had it rebarreled, I was thinking about on hunting with it also, so I practised with 180 Accubonds, and I could group 1" @ 200 yds with Retumbo. I couldn't swallow $40+ a box for Scirrocos! (call me cheap!). I'll stick with my 7RM for hunting; little cheaper on the wallet, little lighter rifle, and just as effective out to 500 yds +.

If I get really good like the guy's on longrangehunting.com (probably won't happen), I might try the .300 for a long shot.

I hear ya on the $40+ a box sciroccos that is why I reload. [wink] I can load them for $17 a box and have chronyed my loads against factory rem scirocco loads.

Factory swifts 3310 fps my loads 3330 damn close. I use a CCI mag primer, 91.0 grns. of IMR 7828.

You really need to get into reloading if your going to shoot stuff like that it would save you a ton of money. The other great part is you can play around with different loads and probably come up with something your gun will like better than anything you could buy.

Bring that to a shoot so I can check it out.

If you shot 300RUM alot, you HAVE to reload! :P I reload for darn near everything I have minus shotgun and the "evil black rifles".

Are you getting Scirocco's for $17 a box, or are you saying you load a box of rounds for $17? If you get those bullets that cheap let me know where! LOL

Before the rebuild, I had pushed the Accubonds to 3342 (average) before I had a sticky bolt lift (H1000), but the best accuracy ended up with 96.5 grains of Retumbo with 3180 FPS. Slow I know, but I am an accuracy freak.

On the build, I had Bill loose the "freebore", on his recommendation, in hopes to gain more accuracy. This may come with the penalty of velocity, I dunno. I don't chrono anymore until I find "the" load, as I pull myself too many directions... The new barrel is chambered for COAL of 3.717 with 240's, so I am going to back it up .15 and start from there with Retumbo, H1000, RL25, & WC872. The jury is out on RL25, as from what I hear and read, it is "temperature" sensitive. Perfomed well on break-in rounds though. I wish I could find US869(?), as this powder is supposed to be the best for the heavy 30's.

Bring it to a shoot? Let me find a load first, then find a CO Ar-15 shoot past 200 yds :P Your's sounds like a sweet set up also! 28" BBL? I wanted a 28" too, but I'm impatient and couldn't wait for the order! Post a pic of yours too, we can start a "300 club"!

[roll] I thought when you said sciroccos are 40+ a box you did not reload. Yes I load them for $17 a box I buy most of my supplies from sportsmans nowdays.

$17 = a box of 20 rnds..... beats the hell out of $40+

My rifle is nothing compared to yours but it serves me well in the field. My loads are very accurate for what I use it for. I have not had a chance to play with it much but I will get to that. My 30-06 I have a deadly accurate load for.

Let me know what kind of loads you come up with
