Default Folks, it ain't over yet. SB 34

Just when we got to thinking the fat lady had sung, along come a couple of turncoat Republican senators to shove a sock in her mouth.

    http://www.rmgo.org/alerts/2007-kestertaylor.shtml

Whether you live in their districts or not, please contact Sens. Kester and Taylor and let them know how you feel about them turning their backs on their party and law-abiding gun owners in the state (be polite but firm).

    Senator Ken Kester: (303) 866-4877
    Senator Jack Taylor: (303) 866-5292

These guys need to see the light and vote with their own party on this issue.

There is someone else very important to call - especially if you live in his district:

    Andy McElhany

    // rant on
He's the senate MINORITY leader. If he wants to stay in the MINORITY, I can't think of a better way than to let his tribe wander off the reservation on issues so pertinent to a key party constituency. It's called party discipline. He can't make these liberals vote with us, but he can make an example of them if they don't.

When it comes to our civil rights, I have zero tolerance for RINOs.

Only one of the three have an email address. I do believe this isn't the 80's anymore and an email account posted for people to express their views should be mandatory.

I hate to burst anybody’s bubble but email is a joke and means nothing. Any idiot can take ten seconds to write and email and for that reason they mean nothing.

If you really want to make a dent you need to write a letter. Yes I know it is inconvenient and you have to buy a stamp. However it will have ten times the effect of any email.

But why is a letter more effective than an email? Just because it is a physical thing that took more effort than an email??? How still is that more effective in a politician's eyes?

I have to agree with Hunter and I've heard this from several politicians and friends who are lobbiest. Email hits them like a flood and they on the whole don't take it with the same import that they do when a person takes the time to actually write and mail a letter. It was suggested that it be typed/printed - most of us know our handwriting is awful anyway - and signed. They actually seem to place more value in that than email or phone calls for some reason. Hell, take a morning off of work if you can and go see them on the hill.

Still, that being said, if email is the way you can find time to contact them, it's still something. I know that I was surprised when Nancy Spence took the time to write me back the first time. Now she and I exchange email at least once a week or so.

    +1000 to what Badshot said.

Look at it like this email is cyber space and imagine you checked your email every day only to find hundreds upon hundreds of emails. It is not real hard to read a few bitches and click a mouse and make them all go away. It's not real hard to have a auto response set up and one click of a mouse you responded.

On the other hand imagine going to work and finding hundreds of letters piled on your desk. You can't just click a mouse and make them go away can you? Not to mention it is kind of hard to ignore somebody that is compassionate enough to write a letter. It's even harder to ignore hundreds if not thousands of people compassionate enough to write a letter.

Yes it is a physical interaction and because of human nature it will have a much greater impact. I am by no means telling anybody not to email or call I am just saying if you want to hit them hard write a letter. It does not have to be hand written I use ms word.

    BadShot and HunterCO,

There is no denying the power of snail mail in these situations. Letters can't be ignored simply by virtue of their physical presence.

However, we have to act quickly on this. The third reading of this bill may very well occur today and letters that arrive on their desks next week aren't going to be worth very much if that is the case.

Again, please call these three (email if you can/must) and change their minds and votes.

Not to hijack the thread, this kind of make for an interesting idea. How about a COAR "field trip" to the capital with a bunch of us paying a visit to our lawmakers so they can see there are real people behind our emails, phone calls, and letters.

    Just a thought
