I was also sitting in the audience on the last new member orientation and have been to the range once now (posted a review "A newbies first range trip"). Since I'm a traveling consultant, I plan to use it mostly on weekdays and won't run into many people.

In spite of everything said about AGC, at least I now have a place to shoot my XCR and other long arms without having to subject myself to the constraints at Cherry Creek or drive zillions of miles into the woods.

And, best of all, I'm now one of those crotchety old timers. [postal]

PS. I do plan to keep shooting IDPA with FRIDPA and make some of the rifle shoots so I can suck up some of those cheesy brats.

PPS: There's few enough ranges around, and I also just joined Lead Valley.

Do not under any circumstances join Lead Valley. Personally I take them for shiesters. I was one of the first 10 members to actaully pay and wait for nearly a year before they opened. I paid for a full membership back in Dec '06 got a range orientation in Feb' 07. Range actully opened for live fire in Nov '07. Repeated requests for a refund before opening went unanswered. I seriously considered buying a booth next to them at every gun show just to drive people away from that group. Terrible outfit and just a 50 yrd range with no date of when the 100 and 500 yrd ranges will open. You either have to bring your own target stands or rent them? I would think most ranges provide them as a standard of membership.

But YMMV. However I'll never be sending them another dime.

Just to clarify the shiester comment was directed at Glenn (I mis named as Greg) and Aaron not the general membership.

I really hope this is not the case and Lead Valley gets their act together.

I've seen very similar stories with local businesses that seriously underestimate cost and overestimate cash flow. IF that's the case, their only hope for success is COMMUNICATION WITH MEMBERS.

    No target stands? Wow.

A copy and paste from an email dated 11/29/07

    Hello Members
As you should all know the range is open at this time. Your dues started at opening which was November 13th . I want to tell you about some of the things going on at this time here at the range.
As the weather has been a bit cold since we opened we still have had quite a few members out to shoot. Some of the things that we have learned is first don’t forget to bring your own targets and stands. If we are here when you come out we have both paper and cardboard targets to sell and target stands to rent or sell. We have done this as we have had a couple of you come out without stands. Please remember that this is only when we are here.
One is that we are going to have a range safety officer class. On the 12th of January 2008 at 8:00am here at the range If you wish to attend please contact us as we have limited space and must get the books and paper work for the class. The cost of the class is $80.00 with a deposit of $25.00.
Don’t forget to check in with us to get your new ID card when you come out.
For those of you who have not made an orientation yet we are holding one on the 9th of December at 10:00am. Again we have limited space so E-mail me at glenn@leadvalleyrange.com and I will get you signed up for a time to come and send you directions to the range.

    Let’s plant some lead
    Glenn

I seem to remember that they had not already obtained permission from the county to actually have a range out there and that was part of the hold up.

I like shooting at the Aurora Gun Club. It's only about 15 minutes from my house.

    Default Not so much...

Well, I shot there several years ago with a member. Later I spoke with him about going back and he stated he was not a member there anymore. I asked why and it turns out if you are a certified NRA instructor and teach there, you have to inform the board of directors that you are going to teach there, and you have to pay the club a percentage of your fees that you earn from instructing. He informed me, when the club discovered he was teaching and they weren't receiving any $$$ for his efforts, they banned him and revoked his membership. WTF? I can understand informing your member regarding the club's bylaws, and maybe suspending their membership but banning them? I think that's a bit over the top.
