Unfortunately, my lead 185s are swaged not hard cast. I've been told that pushing them out at velocities necessary to make power factor is likely going to cause severe leading.

One alternative that was suggested was to look at the really heavy bullets like a 260 (or was it 250 ) grainer which would only need to attain a velocity in the upper 600's. The explanation was that the heavier slug would allow for the slower velocity necessary to avoid leading and still make the power factor.

To me, it sounds like shooting a watermelon down range.

I'm ready to spring for copper jacketed bullets if absolutely necessary but I'm still hoping for a less expensive (lead) way to go.

    Still open to suggestions

Lead will work and lots of guys shoot it. Just remember to clean your gun after every match and dont shoot jacketed after lead thinking it will blow/scrape/clean out the lead.

I would just order a case or four of Montana Gold 230 FMJs and call it good.

Tom - thanks for the advice on Montana Gold bullets. I never realized they were so reasonably priced. I'll give em a try.

I had been looking at Sierra/Nosler etc etc and was getting pretty depressed over how much those bullets cost.

    Take care

There is a guy in Pueblo that is a dealer. He lives about 5 minutes from the range and if he isnt at the match, he is willing to deliver.

I use lead, but mine are hard cast. The best thing for you to do is clean the bore after each match with a product called "Lead Away." It's a rag soaked in a chemical. You cut a piece of the rag off about the size of a cleaning patch, then run it through the bore a few times. The chemical softens the lead, and will push out black junk (lead) that you didn't even know was there. Run a clean, dry patch through it after the lead-away patch and you're golden.

    The stuff works great.

Thanks Mac - have you found a local supplier or did you order online??
