    Default Stupid (maybe) newbie question...

Ok, maybe this is one of those head-smackingly awful, stupid newbie questions, but I just have to ask it anyway. I'm giving serious consideration to buying a reloading setup to make my new S&W 500 economically feasible to shoot. While looking up bullets at various reloading websites, I was hit with the idea: is it possible to load 50BMG bullets in a 500 S&W case and fire them through the revolver? I would think this would open up all sorts of cool possibilities like tracers, APIT rounds, and the better penetration factor of a spitzer shaped bullet. Just curious...

I would imagine a lot of the BMG bullets would be too heavy, but the lighter grain ones make me wonder. I mean, there are 700gr S&W loads out there...

Dont attempt it even if it looks like it will work. Someone will have to scrape your arm off the benchrest at the range.
+1 even if you could somehow load it, it would be to long to even close the cylinder.

What if the bullets were cut down to size? Is there a precise enough way to do that economically? (I'm assuming a hacksaw wouldn't be nearly careful enough.)

I only ask because I read a forum post a while ago about a guy who loaded up BMG tracers in 500 S&W cases and shot them through an NEF handi-rifle chambered in 500S&W.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I guess that little project is out of the picture - darn, it would've been cool...
