    +1.

Someone said the campus is over 2,000 acres. Thats over 3 square miles with some 25,000 people on it. It's like a town. You don't shut down a town and tell everyone to hide when some guy shoots his ex. It's too early to Monday morning quarterback with hindsight we don't have.

If everyone was armed, I doubt this would have happened, at least to this extent.

My two thoughts to add on this. First, it appears to be a perfect example of the liberal approach to everything paraphrased as "rely on government for everything, including your own personal protection". We're conditioning a nation of sheep who won't take personal action to protect themselves. I just listened to the news interviewing a number of the students. They all hid behind their desks for "it went on for over a minute and a half" listening to the shooter shooting before moving to another classroom. Nobody thought to throw a desk or chair at the gunman in self defense. As somebody else pointed out, nobody ran, they didn't charge the gunman - they all hit the ground and waited to be shot.

Second thought, the news clearly was setting up the renewal of the AWB. On NBC they showed a little vignette that showed a pistol, ejected the magazine and said the previous AWB restricted magazines carrying over 10 rounds but now a "larger caliber, 9mm" can hold up to 19. Of course this after already making the point that the shooter reloaded several times and was carrying spare magazine in "something". Look for belts and vests capable of hiding spare magazines to be banned next.

Lots of new info but just think how the dean is going to feel when this gets around. He is already in hot water for the "we thought he had left" remark.

Gun bill gets shot down by panel
HB 1572, which would have allowed handguns on college campuses, died in subcommittee.

    By Greg Esposito
    381-1675

A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.

House Bill 1572 didn't get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.

The bill was proposed by Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah County, on behalf of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Gilbert was unavailable Monday and spokesman Gary Frink would not comment on the bill's defeat other than to say the issue was dead for this General Assembly session.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."
Del. Dave Nutter, R-Christiansburg, would not comment Monday because he was not part of the subcommittee that discussed the bill.

Most universities in Virginia require students and employees, other than police, to check their guns with police or campus security upon entering campus. The legislation was designed to prohibit public universities from making "rules or regulations limiting or abridging the ability of a student who possesses a valid concealed handgun permit ... from lawfully carrying a concealed handgun."

The legislation allowed for exceptions for participants in athletic events, storage of guns in residence halls and military training programs.

Last spring a Virginia Tech student was disciplined for bringing a handgun to class, despite having a concealed handgun permit. Some gun owners questioned the university's authority, while the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police came out against the presence of guns on campus.

In June, Tech's governing board approved a violence prevention policy reiterating its ban on students or employees carrying guns and prohibiting visitors from bringing them into campus facilities.

I mean no disrespect to the lives lost and there familys and friends. My heart goes out to them and they are in my prayers but, After reading some of the comments posted on the ABC news Blog about how guns are killig people. So i posted this on their site. I've come to the conclusion that the bullets are to blame not the Guns! The gun takes another slap in the face today when a couple of strays were found in the same area as a deceased courier. It was reported that the guns did all the killing when in fact it was the bullets that were at fault. It was reported that many bullets were at the scene. This group of bullets belong to two very different gangs, the 22’s and the 9mm’s. As everyone knows bullets are very intelligent and can easily persuade the human brain to obey their every command. The gangs were able to manipulate a young host to carry out there devious plan. FMJ & HP the leaders of the gangs used there mental telepathy to talk to the host. They first instructed the host to provide them with transportation, and magazines were in order. Secondly the bullets needed a launching pad and something to take the blame. The gun was the perfect choice. After all it’s been taking the blame for years. The bullets wanted to use Box Cutters but, nobody in there right mind would of believed them. So the dirty deed was carried out and performed exactly as planed. The gun took the rap and the host was considered a nut job that was hearing voices.

This is what I posted today on Myspace and Facebook. I've already seen it reposted four times on Myspace, and I posted it as a note and on a group on Facebook, and one guy said he reposted it a bunch of times (with me credited as author, of course). Feel free to repost.

At least 32 people died today at the hand of a single gunman at Virginia Tech. This is the single most deadly shooting of any kind in US history, much less a school shooting. The previous records were held by the University of Texas shooting in 1966 and of course Columbine in 1999.

As best we know so far, the single gunman chained building doors shut so nobody could escape and then methodically murdered students and faculty classroom by classroom, apparently execution-style. No one had any chance or means to resist or fight back. The motive of the shooter is unknown at this point, but the results of his actions are all too clear.

Some will attempt to point to this incident as a reason for more gun control. However, this man clearly ignored the laws we have that prohibit murder, so why should we believe that he would even notice laws that say he couldn't take a gun onto campus? Those same laws prohibited students, including those who were killed by this madman, from legally carrying concealed weapons on campus. If only one or two students had been armed, it's quite likely that this massacre could have been stopped far earlier than it was.

Last January, HB 1572 died in subcommittee in the Virginia State Legislature. This bill would have allowed legal concealed carry permit holders to carry on campus. I quote from The Roanoke Times article of January 31, 2006:

"Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. 'I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.'"

Well, Larry, I hope you and the students and staff that died today "felt safe" after being barred from defending themselves on your campus. I hope you're happy that those evil guns were removed from campus, even though that's what it takes to stop an armed shooter. I hope you realize that the only people who obeyed your anti-gun campus laws are the innocent folks who were murdered in cold blood today.

Folks, this cannot be allowed. Don't let the mainstream media fool you into thinking that this crime today could have been prevented by more gun control. The only way it could have been stopped earlier than it was is if students, possibly like you and me, were allowed the means to defend themselves on campus. The only real option the people who were locked in their classrooms with the gunman had was to kneel down and hope that he didn't shoot them. This is unacceptable. Push for freedom to protect yourself on campus and everywhere else, because sometimes you are your last line of defense.

Repost this if you believe in the right of those who died today to defend themselves.

host of new anti gun legislation

The police, no matter how well trained, can never get to an incident like this in time to do anything but count the bodies. Those that introduce more restrictive gun control laws in response to this aren't thinking clearly.

I suppose everyone on this forum already understands that, so I don't know why I bother posting this.
