    Default Arrest for open carry

    http://www.nationalreview.com/corner...ree-cj-grisham

Great footage of a shitty event. Worth the watch. Something I noticed that they didn't point out in the article is the the cop drew the pistol across the sergeant's head when he disarmed him.

My question: what are the laws about this in Colorado? I know the open carry laws, but what about interactions with officers? What can they detain you for? At what point do you need to show ID? What do you have to tell an officer you are concealed carrying (the .45)? I'd like to know the details of the law like this Sargent seemed to. Are there any good consolidated references on this topic?

Lastly, we should have an Open Carry Day ever year in Colorado in an effort to educate the public and the cops about its legal status.

Dammit. I thought I searched enough... Now I'm one of "those"... haha. Admin, please delete/merge threads.

EDIT: I would like to request that this thread not be deleted/merged. The other thread has turned into a flame war about whether or not you should be doing that. I am interested in aspects of the CO law, which I believe merits a different thread. Leaving it in the CC forum (rather than General Discussion) should keep out some of the riff raff. Let me know if you disagree.

He was at the NRA convention last weekend. An AR manufacture gave him a pick of anything they make to replace his weapon that was confiscated. He said he was fairly certain he would get his back so he was leaning towards one for his wife. . . the one with pink highlights.

If we allow this to be the norm it will become the norm. He is right to fight and bring attention to the issue. That is a clear example of what scares a lot of us... A police state. I don't think most cops are like that but they do exist and what I think got him in the most trouble was stating he was going to press charges. The fact is he should have deescalated, got out of there, keep the video and then pressed charges after they let him go. Is it right no, but we have to be smarter than they are. That is how we stop this from being the norm..

I saw a young man open-carrying in Englewood last evening. He went into the local liquor store in the King Soopers parking lot at S. Broadway & Floyd. Had a Ruger semi-auto (SR-9 I'm guessing) in a thumb-break holster. Really hope it wasn't someone from here.

Well, those organized mass open carry days sure worked out well for CA didn't they?!

Anti-gun bills have NO trouble getting through the CO legislature right now. I don't see even the slightest need to provoke the Dems to impose even more regulations on gun owners.

Why, because he went in a liquor store? What is the CRS that say's you can't? I thought I read that you couldn't but honestly don't know anymore....

I don't know about that... Technically you can't be a pot user and purchase a firearm, so why would carrying one while being a user be any different?
