Default RPK For Bear & Elk?

Anyone ever use a 7.62x39 for big game?

No. There are simply too many other better calibers and firearms.

I personally haven't, but I had a lot of friends in high school that did. They took several elk with them, but didn't take long shots. Most were 150 yards or less.

It can do it just like a perfect .22 shot. Advisable? Not so much. As in another thread if you are looking for bare cheap hunting just get a $100 mosin and 25 rounds for 8 bucks.

Don't know about your rpk but would also want to make sure even if you had the power, accurate too.

Keep in mind, you're on par with a .30-30.

It can be done with a soft point of good construction, but I think it's borderline ethically.

Please no. Unless you are 80 yards or under. Just not enough.

Perhaps you can borrow from a friend/family member? Or look into a cheap Mosin?

dude, just borrow a rifle from someone. Post up a thread and see if someone will loan you a rifle for the season, sight it in for you and hunt, then return it. Divorce happens, lots of people understand that.

Remember that an RPK can holdup to 40 rounds in a mag!!!!! That should do it.
Besides. You don't need permission from here!!

For the sake of the animal and the meat I would advise against it. You screw up a shot you just ruined the meat and now the animal is suffering. Pumping another 39 rounds into the side is just a waste.
