To all my classmates that never made it back. My wife wrote this memorial poem for our 35th reunion.

    Absent Sir

    One in solemn silence
    Reflective and subdued
    Sustained by vivid memories
Ah, the gallant years of youth.

    Four years at USAFA
    Rendered victory, we knew fear
    Through trials and tribulation
    As One, we persevered.

Tapped for the task to lead
    Bestowed with honor we served
    Emerged as Air Force officers
    Precious freedom we preserved.

Brilliant bars of gold and silver
    Gilded oak leaves, shiny stars
    Decorations of achievement
Speak not to who we are.

    Musty are our uniforms
    Tarnished is the brass
    Unified as One we come
    To celebrate this class.

    Blissful their ascension
    Splendor as they soared
    Farewell my fellow comrades
    You’ve bravely gone before.

    Fledglings into falcons
    We’re never far apart
    Absent Sir shall echo
Through the chambers of our heart

    To those who have served,
    those who have fought,
    and those who have died...
    my hat is off,
    my head is bowed,
    thank you.
