    Default New to Denver shooting

    Hi guys,
I'm relatively new to CO. I live in east Denver and I'm trying to figure out where some places to shoot are. I found a couple gun clubs out east but they seem a little pricey and some aren't even taking new members. I know there in the family place in Cherry Creek but at almost $25 a visit it seems a little steep too. I've heard that there are a few places in Pike's Peak Natl. Forest, like kelsey creek, but that's about it. I dont know anything more. I'm used to being able to drive 30 min in any direction and shooting on public lands, but I get the feeling like that's not a reality here in Denver. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is already a thread that addresses this concern feel free to point me in that direction. Thanks

Free public land shooting: your best bet is probably Pawnee Grasslands, about an hour north and a little east of Greeley. Everyone has their favorite spots up there. Be picky about the times when you go (avoid weekends). Be courteous and pack out more trash than you bring in.

Other than that, you may want to contact RW Swainson either through Facebook or you could PM Buckeroobonsai and see if he will take you out and give you an introduction. RW's Bennett farm are not free, but for the variety of shooting you can do there, the price and atmosphere are well worth it.

This isn't Utah. Lots of people actually live here in the supposedly uninhabited plains and mountains. I know that if you go just west of Tooele, you could shoot for miles without hitting anything other than sand or rocks.

    Be safe.

pawnee is the best bet. not terribly far and you can clearly see if its safe to shoot in an area. plenty of berms if you know where to go to shoot into. can easily shoot out to 1000 yards. best to talk to some folks that know the area well enough to give you a decent spot though because some of the land is private

Glad to see this post as I recently moved back to the big city after 30 years in the Roaring Fork Valley. Had multiple locations for outdoor shooting and a great outdoor range up there. Just drive 15 - 30 min and shoot just about anything ya wanted to.
And for the first time ever, I just went to an indoor range in Lakewood (Blue Core) and really enjoyed that. Nice range and very affordable for an hr with 2 pistols.
