    Default Camp food

Looking for some easy elk camp meals. I usually archery hunt and eat mountain house and the like but some buddies talked me into 2nd season. We will be car camping so weight isn't an issue.

Sine we will likely be out until dark I'm looking for something to cook at home and freeze. Something that I can reheat and feed 4. Kind of steering away from chile or stew, might do ham and beans but not sure.

    Thanks in advance.

We used to just vac seal and freeze meals and warm up in boiling water. No limit to what you can make that way. Menu is open to whatever you and your pals like.

I made Chicken Tortilla Soup and Jambalaya. Froze them both and just heated them up at camp. Worked great. I also make and freeze breakfast burritos so we don't have to cook early in the morning.

When I car camp, as I'm leaving town en route to the mountains, I'll stop by the grocery store... I will frequently pick up a per-marinated/vacuum packed pork loin, chicken breasts, or the like. Along with a few cans of veggies and drinks/snacks, I'm all set for a few days. The meat can go directly on a grill (I have a grate I just lay over the fire as a grill), in a dutch oven, in tin foil tossed in the coals, etc... there's pretty much nothing to cooking it. For the veggies, just pop the can a little bit, and stick the can on the grill too, or to the side of the coals. I don't see how it can be any easier than that...

Now if i had time and effort to prepare at home, I could just make something and zi plock it, like others have said, but the effort at camp would be the same, so the sky's the limit on the menu.

Best and Easiest to make on BBQ.

Sausage also good, we cook freeze items such as shredded meat for burritos, fajitas works good. Sirloin tips, almost anything you desire.

I'm wondering what kind of response I'll get from this...
... but if weight isn't an issue and you aren't afraid to do a little extra work....

    Pancakes.
Yep. Nothing like them for breakfast when you are camping. The kids love them... if we go camping and don't prepare pancakes, we for sure hear about it. Even if you just take an instant-add-water mix, it's a great pick-me-up.
    And who doesn't love pancakes?

My dad always made pancakes. We always had a camper growing up, so food was never really an issue.

I typically take almost all dry food, or something easy to grab out of the cooler and bring my trash back with me in my pack. I am always gone all day, so it is very rare for me to be able to cook something nice on the grill. Usually for dinner it is something quick, every once in a while I will cook up some brats or burgers or hot dogs or something.

Breakfast burritos pre-made by the wife unit are always a big hit too. easy to heat up on the grill/wood burning stove in my wall tent
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

    My Feedback
