Those are great against rocks and hand thrown or blunt objects but anything bigger than a 22 will poke right thru just keep that in mind. Maybe even a 22, they're mostly aluminum in the middle and steel on the very edge. Even if you get all steel versions they're 26ga mild steel the same thickness as metal roofing.

I would personally use those windows to protect from smash and grab type stuff, not as bullet defense.

Danimal: I know relatively little about prepping, but I am in strong agreement with you. One of those shelters that you bury in the ground with an NPR filter would have your essentials. Then, even if your house gets burned down, you can still shelter in your bunker until it is over and leave safely later.

I like the idea of covered windows. If need be when the time comes you can allways upgrade the balistic protection by adding more steel to them.

im not too worried about bullets, id be in the bunker if it came to that. i like it for protection of robberies and break ins. the question i have is, do they lock? if so, how? my guess is you could get them thicker steel too if you really wanted it and wanted to pay the money. i like them for when you leave on vacation, possibly at night time, and definitely if things get a little hairy its one more line of defense.
