Default Pronghorn hunting with the LAR 8

Well this week I missed my early season Pronghorn hunt due to an ankle injury. I have some hardware in the ankle that was acting up and I did not want to screw up my upcoming deer hunts. Normally I hunt Pronghorn with a 308 FN PATROL BOLT rifle and always harvest. I have a late season tag so I was thinking of using a Rock River Lar 8 20 inch 308 for the hunt. I also have two LAR 8 carbines that I could use too, but feel the 20 inch will be better. Anyone out there hunt with one of these rifles? What commerical round are you using? I like the Federal Hunting Match Kings in the FN, have not shot those expensive rounds(nor any other hunting rounds) out of the LAR 8 but may give it shot. Most of my Pronghorn harvest have been 300-400 yards, however the last two years I have harvested at 500-575 yards because of some very cautious speed goats. The 575 yard shot was done with a 300WSM last year because the FN was in the gun shop for a pin issue. The 300WSM is my deer rifle but a little overkill for the Pronghorn. However I love 308 battle rifles and it would be fun to use one on a hunt.

I've hunted the prairie ghosts with either a bow or my remington 700 in .243. always tagged out. Didn't draw anything this year however, even in WY. I am saving up my colorado points for a trophy rifle hunt up near craig.

I just ordered a new .300 win mag so I may take that in case I need to do some real long range hunting.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.

Don't forget to get a five round magazine for it.

I use the Barnes TTSX 168gr loads in my M1A. It seems to like them.

I will do the same, and will bring one of my m1a too. Have not hunted with with any of them but it would be a good option.

doesn't hurt to be ready for zombies or bad guys while out in the boonies. I also bring a Glock 20 and three mags too Pronghorn hunting. I carry a Ruger Sp101 in the mountains. I always have 2 boxes of ammo for the rifle in the back pack. One year those boxes came in handy when I took a spill and knocked my scope way out of whack. Took 10 rounds and resighted the scope. Another time was having some issues with windage and used those extra rounds for some practice so I have learned to allways have 45 rounds with me which is what I feel comfortable with.
