Default unit 51 sucked for 1st elk

Damn, Saturdays weather didn't help. Only saw 2, bull and cow, but they were hauling ass when they saw me. Had about a second to shoulder and fire...i'm just not that fast. Sunday was just to hot...dark timber, who knows how many I walked by. 5 guys, and a skunk. No bugles, no fresh sign, very sparse fresh tracks.

On the other hand, the deer were out in force. Could of shot 5 or 6 bucks, and the same amount of does. Good luck for the guys hunting deer.

You know that's how it works right? Whenever you have a elk tag you see deer and when you have a deer tag you see elk. I went last year first season (elk) and it was way too hot. We need snow for a good hunt!

I'm hoping for snow for 3rd rifle Unit 53, and my hunting partners are after Mulies in 53, so they'll be happy in any case.

it was just frustrating, lots of shots heard on private land, but nothing on public land...like you all said, it's called hunting.

unit 27 was bad to, spike camped in snow and rain for 2 days 3 miles back, only seen year old scat and tons of nice deer. Hiked out and road hunted the next 2 days and seen 3 elk in a safty zone where no hunting is allowed. On the last day we finaly found a medow with fresh tracks and came back for the evening hunt and all we saw was a beautiful fox that I wish I would have shot and he came about 10 feet away but I thought the 7mm rem mag would just destroy the fur so I didnt.

Going 2nd season, unit 751. Planning on going out this week to scout it out. We usually have pretty good luck as far as seeing animals, but like you guys said, its hunting anything can happen.
