I knew they were different units but i think the 2nd and 3rd season tags cover both of them. Had any luck on the mig mountain just south of monte? im going to school here in the valley and have done alot of hunting but never elk and wanted to try it out, but dont really know where to go or where to look ya know.

I worked in the north end of the vallley last winter. Local rancher said elk migrate from around gunnison and winter around crestone. He said there are hundreds. Those folks up there are hard pressed to make a living, you might give that area a drive by and talk to the locals at the local cafe.

I hunt OTC bull for unit 80, just to the West of Monte Vista, past Del Norte then South of South Fork... Beaver Mtn & Del Norte Peak. Hunting 80 is hit or miss. They're out there, you've just gotta find 'em.

In fact, I'm leaving for Elk Camp in a couple of days (Second Season hunt).

I'll be camped up Trl 350 (I think that's the trail number). If you come out that way, look for about 5 campers, 2 EZ-Up canopies and probably 2 wall tents - one of the campers (other side of the road) will have blaze orange flamingo's by the road, that group is us. Ask for Ginsue - that's what they all call me. Be sure to announce yourself, I come out well armed when folks come into our camp.

Wife & son will be heavily armed at home & WillysWagon lives seconds away so I don't worry too much about putting this out publicly.
