So, I've always been a little skeptical of the Mora knives. I don't do well with 'cheap'. I'm more of a 'cry once' guy. Anyway, Mora just came out with some new knives with thicker blades, the heavy duty (HD) knives. I bought one of each, there are three. The two basic ones are under $20 and the third is about $40 and has a basic black coating on the carbon blade. The other two are also carbon blades and a little shorter, about 4". I got them for my kids to use when we camp. I have them practice bushcraft techniques; batoning, whittling instruments, starting fires without matches or a lighter... Next camping trip will be working on basic snare designs and they will need better knives than what they have. I was hoping these would fit the bill.
Well, these are the nicest fricken $20 knives I've seen, and the $40 knife is even better. For the price, they can beat the living hell out of them and learn with them, and I think they will be hard pressed to break them. They are NOT an ESEE or equivalently made knife, but after just an initial overlook, they are going to work fine. The sheaths are just molded plastic but these are for kids and I'm sure they won't be treated like a Blind Horse, Turley, or Russell, so that's ok.
These are x-mas presents, so I haven't taken any pics of them, but when I do I'll try to post them here.
