Last weekend was a bust for me. Lots of hiking, and at least we spotted some (only a mile away), but they made it over the next ridge into the thick stuff before we could find them. I hate Oak Brush... Hoping to find some a little closer to home this weekend.

When the weather is hot the thick shit is where you need to be. Dark timber

Yeah, that's where we were. We were only minutes behind them, but never got a second look. Found lots of beds though.

Was out all day, didn't see shit except for a couple bucks on the drive out. It is very dry in the area were hunting at, all the creek beds we saw were pretty much dried up. Were going to try to scout out a good source of water, i think that's the key. Elk have to drink!

I was in GMU 34, and the only thing I saw moving (other than hunters) was a porcupine. Out of my group of 6, we only got one cow. Nobody else saw a thing.

Deer, bear and elk poop everywhere - lots of pressure right now.

Anyway, found a good spot to watch the sun set...

Got a picture from the spot where we thought the elk were bedding down, after we hiked over there. We went over 3 more ridges after this picture, but never got another look. Were obviously not far behind them, but couldn't move quietly, and had no idea where they went.

Can you spot the truck, where we started?

Default 2nd season was good to me

We had a great hunt despite the hot windy weather. The first few days were hard hunting in the dark, thick timber but things started looking up Wednsday as the weather began to change. I took a nice 4x4 Muley out of a small heard just after sun up Wednesday morning. We saw a few elk, mostly cows but we did see one lone bull, not legal though.

Good luck to all of the hunters headed out for 3rd season!
