    Default Fail-Zero Nickel/Boron BCG

So last week I needed a bcg, and the only one I could put my hands on was a Fail Zero setup. Its nice in that it comes with a matching hammer, and ws about $215 plus tax.
You can definitely feel that it is slippery just picking it up. However just picking it up led and checking it out before dropping it in to the first disappiontment- the machine work is mediocre at best. You can see tool marks all over and its just not as quality a job as I expected. Oh well.
This unit got dropped into my 5.56 16" Wilson barreled gun. Loaded up a P-mag with 30 rounds of PMC 55gr and started sending rounds downrange. Accuracy did not change and the BCG worked.... just like the Spikes BCG I had in previously. No FTF/FTE etc. over about 60 or so rounds fired. Used HK and P-Mags. Just like the Spikes BCG....
I have not torture tested it (yet) but others have reported firing 1000+ rounds without cleaning or oiling and with no issue. I can believe this, by buddy has put 1000 rounds through his Sun-Devil factory built rifle without issue, so a high speed setup like the Fail-Zero should be able to equal similar performance.
Overall, the part works, and it is likely worth the extra $$ over a "standard" BCG, but I am not blown away by it. The biggest detraction is the sloppy finishing, toolmarks left on a piece in this price range is simply not impressive at all. As my Machine 1 instructor told me- start with crap, finish with crap.
I would be very tempted to say that a standard chrome BCG is every bit as good, and a parked BCG with a quality treatment along the lines of Frog Lube would work just as well.

So overall- neutral on the Fail-Zero high speed super cool BCG. On the other hand, the WMD piece (which does not include a hammer) is super nice looking, with what appears to be much better machining, I will see if I cant get my paws on one of those next...

Meh, I can polish it but it will remove the nickel/boron coating. I have considered sending it back along with a reasonably worded letter, but it does work, even if it is not as nice as it should be. Annnnd I dont want to have a rifle down while its gone.
