Safe place to shoot tracers now?
Anyone know of a range or place near Denver, where I can shoot tracers this time of year, with it being as dry as it is? Pretty much just looking for some plinking type places. I'm just shooting to expend the ammo and keep the brass easily, without starting a fire, and being safe and responsible. Any Ideas? Does the Cherry Creek range allow tracers?

Howdy. Cherry Creek does not allow tracers or "penetrator" rounds, although they recently changed their rules to permit M855 green tip 5.56 rounds (thank goodness). Although I would love to shoot tracers, given that Colorado (especially the Front Range) is experiencing severe drought and dryness, I wouldn't it consider safe to shoot incendiary ammunition anywhere in Colorado until we get more rain/snow. Unfortunately, we'll just have to wait patiently for Mother Nature to provide more precipitation before thinking about tracers. Even then, I am not aware of a "legal" place to shoot them, as I just haven't done enough research. Maybe other folks could contribute to this thread?

If you are wanting to shoot them just to get the brass why not just pull the tips, save the powder, sell the tracers and now you have unfired instead of once fired brass?
I don't know of any official organized range outside of a military facility that officially allows them, most of them won't even light up in the distance that most ranges around here are at.

This time of year, NO! Just do like I do. Save the tracers for SHTF, or an actual Winter shoot with lots of snow!

Give them to me and I will pull the tracers. We can exchange the tracers for the labor and give you the brass back.

I wish there was, but with the dry climae here I'd be worried about starting a fire. Sucks too since most of the best ammo deals are on tracer rounds.

If you think about it, pulling the bullets is a great idea. I wouldn't re-use the powder (unless you know exactly what it is or are willing to very cautiously work up loads with it), but you'll have brass that's "new" and already primed. It'd save over half the work!

Gong Shooter
you could just trade the ammo for xm193 or similar
