    Question Shooting on BLM land.

I have just been told that when the BLM Closes gates from dec 1st to april 30th...NO SHOOTING ALLOWED or you will be fined big time....why is this and when did they start this?

    Frustrating...grrrr

    Thanks for replying.

Seriously though, where did you hear it? some areas are closed seasonally but I've never heard of a blanket closure.

Down here in Durango area is what i was referring too. I actually called the local office down here and that is what they told me...if the gates are closed then that means no trespassing basically. Something to do with wildlife migration period.

Update...it helps to call the right office who knows which area you are talking about. I had to call three different places to find out who actually closes the gate. Once I got that nailed down I was then able to talk to the real person who has the key to the gate and he gave me some very helpful information.
You can climb over gate and walk or ride bike....Shooting is not preferred because wildlife are in there resting period and that would not allow them to rest. It is not against Law and they might just ask you to leave if you were shooting in this type of area.

I was very impressed with how the Ranger listened to my questions and was very helpful.
